No small print
The drawbacks. In big print.
Elsewhere on our website, we explain why you might choose WebMonster. Here, we explain what you might miss, the limits of our services and a few things worth knowing before you sign up.
Some of these may not work for your project. We’d rather you found that out here, not after moving your website or email to WebMonster.
About our support and what we do for you
We don’t offer phone support
For now, technical support is handled through support requests. We believe this is the most organised and efficient way to resolve issues: we can gather the information, investigate and keep a record of what we’ve done, without you having to explain everything again.
We also know that some people prefer to call, so we may introduce phone support in the future.
Good WordPress support doesn’t mean doing every kind of work on your website
Hosting support includes help with your hosting and basic WordPress assistance. It doesn’t include keeping your plugins up to date, redesigning a page or resolving every compatibility issue.
If you'd like us to handle routine WordPress updates, you can add WebMonster Care to your hosting plan. For broader, day-to-day technical support, there's WebMonster Managed. That includes troubleshooting and small adjustments. Work beyond that scope can be handled through WebMonster Pros, at a cost you'll know before you agree to it.
WebMonster Managed requires your website to be hosted with us
We don’t offer managed WordPress services on other providers’ hosting. Hosting is included in the service and is part of how we manage your website.
About hosting and its limits
We don’t use cPanel or Plesk
You manage your services through the WebMonster control panel, built in-house to bring hosting, domains, billing and support together in one place. We don’t use cPanel, Plesk or other familiar commercial control panels.
Although, if you ask us, the WebMonster control panel is much simpler and more intuitive. And you don’t have to switch to a separate panel to manage your websites and email.
Your hosting plan has limits. It doesn't include a dedicated server.
There are no infinitely large hard drives or servers that can process everything. Each website has CPU and memory limits. With WordPress Cloud Hosting, storage and data transfer are shared across the websites in your plan; email and staging environments also use storage.
Each website runs in a separate environment, but not on its own physical machine. We manage the server: hosting plans don’t include access to control the operating system or install any software you choose.
WordPress Multisite isn’t supported
We don’t currently support WordPress Multisite networks. Each WordPress installation with its own content counts as a website and needs its own environment.
An older website may need changes to keep working
We don’t keep PHP versions that no longer receive security updates available indefinitely.
When we retire a version, we give notice and allow time to make the necessary changes, as set out in our terms. If your website relies on an old theme, plugin or custom code, it may need additional work.
About security, backups and email
Your website can have problems. Even here.
No security is 100% foolproof. Our security measures, redundancy and checks reduce risks, but they don’t eliminate them. Outages, vulnerabilities, software errors and failures at our providers can still happen.
We don’t promise an unbreakable website. We do commit to working to prevent incidents and, when they happen, investigating the cause, getting involved in resolving them and keeping you informed until things are back to normal.
Backups have limits too
Backups are taken at set intervals and kept for a set period. If you need to restore an earlier backup, you may lose later changes, such as orders, content or messages.
Backups can occasionally fail too. That’s why we recommend keeping an independent copy of important information. You also shouldn’t rely on our backups as a permanent archive after deleting data or cancelling the service.
Our email is email. Not an office suite or a newsletter service.
You can send, receive and organise messages, with webmail, forwarding, automatic replies and spam filtering. It doesn’t include office applications or shared file storage such as Google Drive.
To protect the service and our servers’ reputation, we don’t allow newsletters, marketing campaigns or bulk email, even when recipients have given their permission. You’ll need a dedicated service for that.
We focus on quality and privacy: your messages are hosted on triple-replicated cloud infrastructure in the EU, without relying on multinationals to host them.
About prices and guarantees
We’re not the cheapest
You can find hosting and email for less. If your priority is paying as little as possible, WebMonster probably isn’t what you’re looking for.
Our prices need to let us maintain the infrastructure, keep security measures in place and give you our time when you need us. We aim for a fair price that lets us do that work properly, for the long term too.
At WebMonster, our longest-standing customers pay the least. That doesn’t mean freezing prices forever.
Yes, renewals are at the same price: we don’t spring a price hike on you at renewal. We value our long-standing customers and keep their existing prices or give them a discount on the prices published on our website.
However, like everything else, costs rise, and we may make justified price adjustments from time to time.
The SLA doesn’t compensate you for every problem with your website
The service level agreement (SLA) covers certain hosting and email availability failures, subject to its exclusions. It doesn’t cover every plugin error or provide compensation whenever a support request or task takes time to resolve.
Is there something your project absolutely needs?
A particular configuration, an integration, a response time or a way of working. Tell us before you sign up, so we can check whether the service is a good fit.
This page explains the points we think are particularly important before you sign up. The details of each service are set out in its terms.
